I randomly thought of this while watching Apollo 13 the other day. If the astronauts live in Florida and are trained in Florida and the shuttles are launched in Florida, then why is mission control in Texas? And I know something else is in Huntsville,Alabama…don’t they built the shuttles there or something?
Why not all in one place?

We just visited Cape Canaveral but we didn’t have time for the big tour where you get to ask all the questions like this one.

As a follow-up, how many nonworking space shuttles are there. I know at Cape Canaveral they let you walk through a space shuttle that is not fully working, and a friend told me that Huntsville AL also has a space shuttle there that will never fly.

In February 1958, the US finally matched the Soviet Sputnik after launching a satellite called Explorer. There was much rejoicing … especially in the town of Hunstville, Alabama. Why?
They had a prominent resident. Who was he? Where did he come from?
